In this chapter Savater mentioned Plato’s idea of artists and how they could actually rule the world only by their art because they can convince people to follow their life styles, tastes, rules, etc. And I think it is related to form our perspective of beauty following a pattern that someone has all ready established and that fits into our life. But I think that besides convincing ourselves with someone else’s beauty perspective, we should add our own point of view and create our meaning of beauty so what we think we like, it’s actually something that we choose.
Finally I’ll like to say that according to Giorgione, beauty is something that passes, and I think we should be really aware of this when we are convinced that something is or isn’t beautiful because we can change our minds with time. Also the French novelist Stendhal mentioned that “Beauty is the promise of happiness”, So it doesn’t matter what you like or you think is beautiful as long as you really know it makes you happy.
I don't know if I agree in everything with you gaby but in some things like that Plato is trying to give us a beauty perspective to fit it in our lives I do agree a lot with you. In addition, I agree that we must give that special add to the beauty perspectives from our own opinion.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Gaby, everybody has a different perspective of beauty and we have to respect each other opinions. As the book say, if it causes a kind of pleasure, it can be beautiful. So, as you said, beauty is of personal opinion and taste. I also agree with your point of view that instead of being influenced by artist’s beauty, choose based on your point of view, of what you like.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with you because beauty does varies to different peoples taste. It is something that we have to appreciate and it does kind of give us some pleasure. Like you said that artist point of view is something that influences the taste of different kind of people.
ReplyDeleteplato wants all the freelance artists to die, and doesnt want them in his world cause theyre "too dangerous"
