why philosophy?

One of the main arguments against philosophy is that it serves no purpose, and I believe philosophy serves no purpose, but it serves no purpose other than understanding; it serves no purpose other than give us a sense of who we are and how we relate to the world around us. Philosophy serves no purpose other than finding out what the information we are given really means to us as individuals, as part of a society, as part of the world.
Philosophy dares us to think, to go beyond the established solutions and find our own answers; it leaves it up to each person, I make the questions and I give the answers, there is no such thing as someone else’s knowledge. The thing about philosophy is you can't skip steps, too many questions and there are all for you to answer.
People may say now in the twenty first century philosophy is useless or obsolete, but I think that more than that it could be, along with science, a way to fix all the problems we are facing; a way of getting out of all the trouble we have put ourselves and the world we live in into; and also a way to prevent us from making the same mistakes all over again.

  1. I agree with Mariana that nowadays many people think philosophy is useless, but it is not true, it help us to try to think and get the answers to our own questions that have been unanswered for some time. I also agree that philosophy wants us to think, and answer the questions we keep in our minds. As you many times throughout your paragraph, philosophy does serve at least one purpose.
